A Bay City high school teacher is charged with having an improper relationship with a 13-year-old after the victim’s father found the two in the backseat of a car, police said.

Rachel Gonzalez, 44, of Bay City, was booked into a Matargoda County jail Friday on charges of online solicitation of a minor and having an improper relationship between an educator and student.

Bay City police said Tuesday that officers were notified of the relationship on Dec. 15, when the student’s father told police he had seen Gonzalez with his child in a the backseat of a car parked in the 5200 block of Oak Manor Boulevard.

Police with the Bay City Independent School District then turned the case over to city police, who found evidence of the relationship on the victim’s phone. Bay City police said outside law enforcement agencies often take over investigations in which one agency would have to investigate one of its employees.
